Haldon/Bayford 6 Months ago
Hello Howard , I can't seem to reply directly to your message on the board, so I am having to create a new one.
I have a Hannah Bayford in my family tree married to John Halden, her grandfather was my great grandfather x 5.
Sorry I don't have much information on the Halden's, apart from the burial sites in Brent Pelham church, and John and Hannah's grave
in the church yard. Let me know if these are of any interest to you.
Incidentally was the Red Lion in B.Pelham? I have never heard of it, the majority of my ancestors came from Furneux.
Good luck
Dee

Hello Dee, Thank you for your message. I would like you to give the Burial details of Haldens in the Church and of John and Hannah in the Churchyard. Regarding the Red Lion in Census details it's occupants are listed after or immediately before the Brent Pelham Hall usually. Thanks again Howard.

I have also had a problem replying directly. It seems to have got lost on the way. To cut a long story short The Haldens and there ancestors the Floyers have a very important, and somewhat grand, place in the history of Brent Pelham.
There was a Red Lion which stood near the present War Memorial, where the lodge to Brent Pelham Hall now is. It was knocked down, or blown up,accounts differ, about 1896, by my great grandfather who had taken against public houses. The census of 1882 shows a Halden there then if I remember correctly. There is a lot more information in the lost message, I dont quite undestand computers, but it might suddenly reappear.
Ted.

Howard reference my previus email thru' GR - copy of my findings below, just in case someone else can expand on them for you -

I do not know really anything about the Halden family but Hannah's grandparents were Ralph Bayford and Rachel Wootton , who are my 6 x great grandparents.
Hannah and John married at Brent Pelham 5 feb 1833.

John died 1867 at the age of 63 - Certificate ref 3a 165 Sept qtr. reg at Bishops Stortford. Hannah died 1883 aged 75 Cert ref 3a 215 Sept qtr reg at Bishops Stortford.

John and Hannah ran the Red Lion Inn at Brent pelham, John was also a farmer of 15 acres employing 1 man.

For a time Alfred Bayford worked for them as a Carter, Alfred being the son of Hannah's brother Joseph. After John's death Hannah's niece Susan worked as Hannah's assistant. Susan being the daughter of Hannah's brother James.

To date I have not found any children

Genia
