An ancestor John Wilkinson married Sarah Hale in Rotherhithe in 1844 and had a daughter Elizabeth there in 1845. There is circumstantial evidence from marriage witnesses that he may be a son of George Wilkinson and Mary Knightley who lived in SP (census records) - eg there is a 5yr old Elizabeth with them in 1851 - but no evidence that they had a son John! John was a 'carman' on Elizabeth's birth cert but was listed as deceased on her July 1871 marriage cert.
I have just found a JAMES Wilkinson, a widowed 'railway carman'aged 51 in the March 1871 census - he gave his place of birth as "LITTLE PELHAM" Herts, We know there was a son James b1818........
Can anybody help? I have no chance of personal local research. Thank you
