Another Furneux Festival has been and gone, and the Festival Committee would like to say a HUGE thank you to everyone that helped before, during, and afterwards. It is wonderful the amount of people that are willing to give up their time and help with this very busy weekend. We never know what the weather is going to do at this time of year but it proved to be well behaved over the whole event. Plenty of people were milling around on the Saturday either watching the football, buying from the Craft Stalls and Church Country Store, tasting the culinary delights of the barbeque whilst enjoying the fine display of classic cars. The church was also a retreat for people to sit and listen to music and take in the atmosphere and enjoy the marvellous floral arrangements. The Saturday evening was yet again a great success at the church; the Pelham Players and Cottage Industry entertained a packed audience with their performance of “Sea Fever”, which was a compilation of prose, poetry and music, centred around the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Trafalgar Changing the dog show to the Sunday was a good decision as this was well attended and all those that were there had great fun – nothing to do with the comparing! People were strolling round the village enjoying the village walk and viewing the wonderful art show in the village hall. Scarecrows seemed to be popping up all over the place in different shapes and sizes, what a delight for people. The photographic competition really took off this year, well done to everyone that got snappy! These new additions to the festival look like they are here to stay. Money raised from this Festival weekend will be going to Friends of St. Mary’s to further the restoration of the church. May we thank everyone again for their time, and energy and we hope this was a good opportunity for people from the village to meet Jeanette Gosney (our Priest in charge) If you would like to see photographs of the weekend please visit the website www.furneuxfestival.com 2005 Festival Committee |
